a message from adam lerner

Dear Colorado Artist,

I want to invite you to the opening of our newest exhibitions of Jim Green and Paul Slocum on Tuesday night (5/12) and I would love to introduce myself to you personally if we haven’t already met. Because these times are tough, we are only charging artists the price of a shiny new dime (instead of the usual crisp $10 bill) at the door. And, as an artist, you can join us for a free drink at the MCA Cafe. I know that our region’s own artists are the true foundation of MCA Denver.

Just hand the front desk attendant a printout of this email along with a current or past announcement card of your work.

I hope you will join us to celebrate Denver’s own Jim Green and Dallas artist Paul Slocum but, if you can’t make it on Tuesday, please feel to print out this email and use it for one free drink at the MCA CafĂ© anytime this summer.

Also, feel free to forward this letter to any other Colorado artists who might be interested in joining us.

Best,
Adam

funny public art

while feeling super nostalgic for my hometown chicago, i of course run across this fantastic traveling public art installation that landed in chicago last september... only adding to my romantic view of that chilly city.

artist kurt perschke has created the redball project, an ongoing site-specific installation, where he temporarily wedges a ginormous red ball in public spaces, engaging passerby's while calling attention to the architectural landscape. hilarious and brilliant! i am so sad to of missed it. boo.

interesting

its interesting how sometimes the most basic human functions fascinate and peak our interest. the new museum in new york is searching for women between the ages of 18 and 40 to take part in a performance/installation by artist chu yun where they take a sleeping pill and sleep in a gallery. for more info visit the idealist. anyone want to go to new york?

5280 designer spotlight

my jewelry is being featured this month in Denver's 5280 Fashion Insider...

Designer Spotlight: Sandra Fettingis
Thanks to rock and roll designers like Steven Shein of Lee Riot, acrylic jewelry--think plastic rainbows, guns, and guitars hanging from necklaces and earrings--now has an edgy reputation. But Denver-based artist Sandra Fettingis refuses to let acrylic knock class. With a background in digital illustration and portraiture, Fettingis cuts Victorian-style cameos and clean geometric shapes from acrylic sheets to create a stylishly playful look for her affordable earrings and necklaces ($24-$30). Her technique--which she references in her brand name, "Handmade. On a Computer"--requires that she sketches her designs digitally before they are laser-cut into acrylic. Find her modern pieces across town at MCA Denver, Composition, and the Fabric Lab. MCA Denver, 1485 Delgany St., 303-298-7554; Composition, 7180 W. Alaska Drive, Lakewood, 303-894-0025; The Fabric Lab, 3105 E. Colfax Ave., 303-321-3604
